City Council Announces Names of At-Large Qualified Candidates
Sixteen (16) candidates have qualified to fill the seat as verified by the Department of Elections.

Wilmington – On September 27, 2022, the late City Council Member At-Large Loretta Walsh announced her resignation from Wilmington City Council, and pursuant to the City Charter, the current City Council was tasked with filling the vacancy and started accepting letters of interest and resumes from residents interested in filling the vacancy.

On October 20, 2022, the city council passed a resolution that accepted the resignation of the late Council Member Loretta Walsh and moved forward with filling the vacancy.

On November 10, 2022, the application period closed and the following sixteen (16) candidates have qualified to fill the seat as verified by the Department of Elections.

  • James J. Taylor
  • Samuel L. Guy
  • Jeffrey A. Santoro

The Committee of the Whole of Wilmington City Council will be reviewing the letters of interest from each qualified resident seeking to fill the seat, interview each candidate, and recommend a candidate to fill the council vacancy following the procedure outlined in the City Charter section 2-34.

The Committee of the Whole meeting to review the credentials of each applicant and to interview them has been scheduled for Monday November 28.

The Council meeting for the vote on the Resolution to fill the at-large vacancy is scheduled for Thursday December 1, 2022.
