Numerous individuals and organizations are recognized in the Council Chambers during Wilmington City Council’s regular meeting on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Louis L. AGENDA #0260 RES. 23-002 A Resolution Appointing Paul Kennard to Fill the Vacant Sr. Producer/On-Air Talent Position in WITN for the Council of the City of Wilmington for the 108th Council Session was ADOPTED by City Council. Synopsis: This Resolution is being presented by City Council for Council’s review and approval. AGENDA #0261 RES. 23-003 A Resolution Appointing Anita Hawkes to Fill the Vacant Legislative Administrative Assistant Position for the Council of the City of Wilmington for the 108th Council Session was ADOPTED by City Council. Synopsis: This Resolution is being presented by City Council for Council’s review and approval. This Resolution appoints Anita Hawkes as the Legislative Administrative Assistant for the 108th Session of the Council of the City of Wilmington. AGENDA #0267 RES. 23-004 A Resolution Appointing Donald Patton to Serve on the Governing Council of the Wilmington Learning Collaborative was ADOPTED by City Council. Synopsis: This Resolution is being presented by the Administration for Council’s review and approval. This Resolution names Donald Patton as the City of Wilmington appointment to serve on the governing Council of the Wilmington Learning Collaborative (the “WLC”). The WLC’s goal is to “create consistency for students, empower educators, school leaders, and communities, and improve outcomes for students in City of Wilmington schools. For details on the resolution, visit the link here.

AGENDA #0251 Ordinance 22-048 Expand Eligible Uses of Community Support Grants Made by City Council (3rd & Final Reading) was PASSED by City Council. Synopsis: This Ordinance is being presented by City Council for Council’s review and approval. This Ordinance expands the eligible uses of community support funds awarded by Council. This Ordinance permits community support funds to be awarded to non-profit organizations for use in Capital Projects such as the acquisition of real property, new construction projects, or improvements and renovations to existing buildings. For details on the ordinance, visit the link here.

1973 Howard High School Championship Team to be Recognized on January 10 

Howard High School in Wilmington, the first Black high school in Delaware history, will honor its 1973 state championship basketball team in a special halftime ceremony on Tuesday, January 10, when Howard High plays Appoquinimink (West Middletown, DE) at 4:45pm at 401 E. 12th Street in Wilmington, DE.
This team will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. Five decades ago, Howard put together a sensational basketball team, which happens to be the first team in Delaware history to finish the season undefeated with a 24-0 record.
