Wilmington City Council Member Justen Wright Announces Annual College Scholarship Award Recipients

40 Wilmington Students Will Receive a $500 Financial Assist to Help Further Their Higher Education Goals

Wilmington City Council Member Justen Wright today announced the recipients of his annual college scholarship award program. Wright, who represents residents citywide as an At-Large Member of City Council, supports the educational needs of at least 40 local students each year who have either graduated from high school and are about to begin their college courses, or are already attending a college.

Students who receive a scholarship are selected by Council Member Wright with the assistance of the Presidents of the Wilmington Neighborhood Planning Councils (NPC).

“A good education is vital to a person’s future career and community growth,” said Council Member Wright. “We justifiably push our young people to achieve and to succeed, so it’s just as important that we chip in when we can to ease the cost burden of attending college. I extend my thanks to the NPC’s for helping me recognize some outstanding Wilmington students who are on their way to a better education.”

The students being honored today are either attending or have been accepted by a college, university or trade school and have achieved at least a 2.5 grade point average.
