Statement by Wilmington City Council Regarding FOIA Petition Opinion

Wilmington, Del. (August 11, 2017) Wilmington City Council President Hanifa Shabazz issued the following statement in response to today’s Attorney General opinion:

“Today’s opinion from the Attorney General’s Office regarding a petition filed concerning Delaware’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), among other things, “declined to request remedial action” for votes cast during Council’s April 6th meeting. The opinion also outlined areas of consideration and clarity with respect to the “open door” provisions of FOIA. On behalf of Wilmington City Council, I accept the opinion as rendered and thank the Attorney General’s Office for their guidance in the ever-evolving area. Going forward, Council will make the appropriate amendments to ensure full compliance with FOIA as outlined in the Attorney General’s opinion.”
