Several Wilmington City Council Members Deliver Lunch to Firefighters in Appreciation of Their Service

Wilmington, DE – As Wilmington joins communities across the country in commemorating America’s 250th anniversary, Wilmington City Council Members Zanthia Oliver (3rd District), Michelle Harlee (4th District), Latisha Bracy (At-Large), and Maria D. Cabrera (At-Large) came together Wednesday to mark the historic occasion by recognizing those who exemplify public service here at home.
The four Council Members provided free lunches to firefighters at Wilmington Fire Stations as a gesture of appreciation for their service and commitment to Wilmington and its neighborhoods.
America’s 250th anniversary provides an opportunity not only to reflect on the nation’s history, but also to recognize first responders whose service continues to strengthen communities today. For Council Members Oliver, Harlee, Bracy, and Cabrera, the milestone offered a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Wilmington’s firefighters and their ongoing commitment to the City.

“Our nation’s 250th anniversary is a time to reflect on our history, our communities and the people who continue the tradition of public service every day,” said Councilwoman Oliver. “Here in Wilmington, our firefighters represent that spirit of service. They answer the call when our residents need them most, and this lunch was a simple way for us to say thank you for their courage, sacrifice, and continued commitment to our neighborhoods.”
Wilmington firefighters play an essential role in protecting the lives and property of residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the City. Beyond responding to fires, firefighters answer emergencies and provide critical assistance to residents during some of their most difficult and vulnerable moments.
The visits also gave the Council Members an opportunity to spend time with firefighters and personally express their appreciation for the work they perform throughout Wilmington.
