Wilmington City Council President Trippi Congo Invites Senior High-Rise Residents to Special Committee of the Whole Meeting
The meeting will provide seniors living in public and private high-rise housing an opportunity to share concerns and experiences directly with City Council.
Wilmington, DE – Wilmington City Council President Trippi Congo is inviting senior residents who live in public and privately operated high-rise housing throughout the City of Wilmington to attend and participate in a Special Committee of the Whole Meeting on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting will focus specifically on ongoing issues impacting seniors living in high-rise housing throughout Wilmington and will provide residents with an opportunity to speak directly about their experiences, concerns, and challenges.
President Congo is encouraging seniors from high-rise communities across the City to participate. The goal of the meeting is to hear directly from residents about the conditions and issues affecting their daily lives and to ensure their voices are part of the conversation about how those concerns can be addressed.
“Our seniors deserve to feel safe, respected, heard, and comfortable in the places they call home,” said Council President Congo. “This meeting is about giving our senior residents the opportunity to speak for themselves and tell us directly what they are experiencing. Whether you live in a public or private senior high-rise, we want to hear from you. City Council needs to understand the issues firsthand so that we can identify where improvements are needed and determine how we can best advocate for our seniors.”
President Congo also emphasized that the meeting is intended to move the conversation beyond simply identifying concerns and toward determining meaningful solutions.
“I am thankful that representatives from the Wilmington Police Department, the Department of Licenses and Inspections, and the Wilmington Housing Authority have agreed to participate in this important meeting,” President Congo said. “They will be there to hear directly from our seniors about the issues they are facing and to help identify an appropriate course of action for addressing those concerns. We want our seniors to know that their voices matter, their concerns deserve attention, and we are bringing the appropriate agencies to the table so that we can have a serious conversation about what needs to happen next.”
President Congo is particularly encouraging seniors, their families, caregivers, resident advocates, and representatives of senior high-rise communities to help spread the word so that residents who are directly impacted have an opportunity to participate.
“This is their opportunity to be heard,” President Congo said. “I encourage our seniors to come to Council Chambers, join us virtually, and share what is happening in their buildings and communities. Their experiences matter, and their voices should help guide the conversation about what comes next.”
