Delaware Resilience Hub Yields Resources For Managing City Heat
Today, July 13th from 12 noon to 5 PM, the Delaware Resilience Hub will open a cooling station where our Wilmington residents will have access to “beat the heat” resources, including water, cooling snacks, and lunch.

Wilmington, DE – High temperatures can affect the health of city dwellers, causing widespread discomfort, respiratory problems, sunstroke, dehydration, tiredness and even increasing mortality rates due to heatstroke.

A new strategy to help Wilmington communities beat the heat is coming to the Resurrection Center today, Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 12 noon to 5 PM at 3301 North Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware. Thanks to Delaware Resilience Hub, a combination of climate emergency shelters and gathering spaces, serve a dual purpose: to let vulnerable people decide how and where they stay safe during disasters and to provide space and resources as they build resilience during climate changes.

“There are many people in our city that are going through devastating times right now and it is our responsibility as a village to support and respond to people in need,” said Delaware Resilience Hub Founder Stacey Henry. “It’s a passion of love for me just to be able to help people. Today, we’ll have a place for people to come to beat the heat. We’ll provide ice, water, coolers, cooling packs, first aid kits, and educational resources on how to stay safe.”

Delaware Resilience Hub is an organization made up of all community volunteers that helps to meet the needs of Delaware’s communities and provides educational resources. The organization has trained volunteers in CPR, First Aid, and disaster relief and is sponsored by the nonprofit Brandywine Valley Friends.
