Councilwoman Shané Darby partners with 1in7B Foundation to Bring Mobile Services To People Experiencing Homelessness in Wilmington
On Saturday, June 3, 2023, a mobile trailer with three full bathrooms, two washing machines, and two clothes dryers will be available from 11 AM to 2:30 PM at 2214 N. Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

Wilmington, DE – Shané Darby, Wilmington City Council’s 2nd District Council Member, is partnering with the non-profit organization, 1in7B Foundation, to provide mobile showers, washing machines, and clothes dryers to homeless individuals throughout the City of Wilmington, Delaware.

“Our homeless community may know where to go to get clothes, food, and shelter. But showers can be far and few between,” said 2nd District City Council Member Shané Darby. “1in7B Foundation is providing a service that is sought after people who have no place to live, brings back a sense of normalcy from everyday life, and makes them feel like they matter to society.”

Many people consider showering to be a basic human right – and Mark Puican, the founder and president of 1in7B Foundation, certainly agrees.

Three years ago, Puican purchased a 28-foot trailer, loaded it up with food, clothes, and hygiene supplies, and visited areas where homeless people live. He soon realized, however, that there is a bigger need: a place for people to shower and wash their clothes. It was then that Puican birthed the foundation and started focusing efforts geared toward providing mobile services to the homeless community.

Whether it’s at area hotels, homeless encampments, or on the streets, 1in7B Foundation brings food, hygiene supplies, and clothing out to where the homeless are. The foundation also belongs to a social services network which allows it to connect guests with the resources necessary to improve their situation if they’re ready to engage.

On Saturday, June 3, 2023, the 1in7B Foundation mobile trailer will be available from 11 AM to 2:30 PM at 2214 N. Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware, for people experiencing homelessness. Individuals will have access to three full bathrooms that include showers, toilets, and sinks, and two washing machines, and two clothes dryers. One of the bathrooms is handicap accessible. Puican anticipates serving anywhere from 10 to 20 people experiencing homelessness.

“1in7B Foundation is very excited to bring this innovative mobile hygiene service to those experiencing homelessness in the city of Wilmington,” said Mark Puican, the founder and president of 1in7B Foundation. “We hope to have a positive impact and not just provide mobile hygiene services, but also make connections for them to get help and to take steps towards restoration.”

The June 3rd event will serve as a kickoff event for the Wilmington area, as this will be the first time the 1in7B Foundation will be at this location. Puican plans to host similar events every other week with the next event happening on June 17, 2023, at Christina Park, which is located at 100 N. Church Street, in Wilmington, Delaware.
