Councilwoman Maria Cabrera Honors Global Effort to Save Lives Through Blood Donation
Wilmington, DE – At-Large Councilwoman Maria Cabrera proudly attended and presented a formal City Council resolution on Sunday, April 12, 2026, recognizing the extraordinary humanitarian efforts of the World Mission Society Church of God during its Worldwide Blood Drive, held in partnership with the Blood Bank of Delmarva in Newark, Delaware.

This impactful event is part of a global movement that has spanned more than 25 years, uniting volunteers across continents to save lives through the simple, yet powerful act of blood donation. The Church’s ongoing initiative, “Give Life Through the Love of the Passover,” has reached communities worldwide, including its 1,733rd blood drive in Maharashtra, India, and the 1,634th in Fredericksburg, Virginia, demonstrating a commitment to service without borders.
The Newark-based drive resulted in the collection of 56 units of blood, including 46 whole blood units and 5 double red donations, helping to potentially save up to 168 lives. Each donation represents hope for patients in need, especially those undergoing surgeries, battling chronic illnesses, or facing medical emergencies.

“Moments like this remind us of the power of community and compassion,” said Councilwoman Cabrera. “The World Mission Society Church of God is not just hosting blood drives, they are building a global culture of giving, breaking down barriers, and showing what it means to love and serve one another in action. Wilmington is proud to stand with organizations that are truly saving lives.”
Blood shortages remain a critical concern across the region and the nation. Local organizations like the Blood Bank of Delmarva continue to emphasize the urgent need for donors, as hospitals rely on a steady blood supply to meet daily demands. Community-driven efforts like this one play a vital role in stabilizing blood inventories and ensuring that lifesaving care is available when it’s needed most.
Beyond addressing immediate medical needs, the Church’s global blood drives also work to eliminate social and cultural stigmas surrounding blood donation, encouraging greater participation and fostering unity through service. Volunteers dedicate themselves to mobilizing their communities, inspiring others to take part in a shared mission rooted in compassion and humanity.
Through this resolution, Councilwoman Maria Cabrera recognizes the World Mission Society Church of God for its outstanding dedication to public health, community service, and global impact.
