PRESIDENT SHABAZZ NAMED 2017 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Wilmington, Del. The Nu Upsilon Chapter (Wilmington) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will honor Wilmington City Council President Dr. Hanifa Shabazz as the 2017 Citizen of the Year. The award will be presented on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 10am, during the fraternity’s 106th Founder’s Day Anniversary breakfast at the Clarion Hotel.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognition,” said President Shabazz. “This award has great meaning to me since public service, to my beloved Wilmington and its residents, has been and continues to be the foundation of my life’s work.”

The Founder’s Day Celebration pays homage to the four founders of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which was founded on the campus of Howard University on November 17, 1911. The Citizen of the Year Award represents the most significant contributions to humanity over a life-time. “As an active community leader and public servant for the past 30 years, Dr. Shabazz is most deserving of this year’s Citizen of the Year Award,” said Robert Adams, Member and Co-Chair 106th Founder’s Day Anniversary Breakfast. “She is truly a beacon of light for others to follow.”
