WILMINGTON, DE — Community members, neighborhood leaders, local partners, and Wilmington City Council Members Latisha Bracy, Alexander Hackett, and Yolanda McCoy recently gathered to celebrate the successful grand opening of West Side Laundry, a new locally owned laundromat located at 1015 Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington.
The celebration marked the opening of a new business and represented a significant investment in the West Side neighborhood through the revitalization of a long-vacant mixed-use property, the creation of new jobs, and the addition of three new residential apartments above the business.
Owned and developed by Monika Mickute, West Side Laundry offers self-service laundry, drop-off wash and fold services, same-day service when available, monthly laundry plans, and commercial laundry support for local businesses. The business was created to provide residents with a clean, modern, welcoming, and dependable neighborhood resource while helping strengthen the Lancaster Avenue corridor.

“This is exactly the kind of investment our neighborhoods deserve,” said 6th District Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy. “West Side Laundry is a place that brings convenience, dignity, jobs, and renewed energy to our community. Seeing a vacant building transformed into a thriving local business and new housing reminds us what is possible when people believe in Wilmington and invest in its future. We are proud to welcome West Side Laundry to our City.”
At-Large Councilwoman Latisha Bracy praised the project as an example of community-centered economic development.
“When local entrepreneurs choose to invest in our neighborhoods, everyone benefits,” said Councilwoman Bracy. “Projects like West Side Laundry strengthen our local economy, create employment opportunities, provide essential services, and help build healthier, more vibrant communities. This investment reflects the resilience and promise of Wilmington’s West Side, and we look forward to seeing this business thrive for many years to come.”
At-Large Councilman Alexander Hackett emphasized the importance of supporting locally owned businesses that contribute to neighborhood revitalization.
“Revitalization happens one investment at a time,” said Councilman Hackett. “West Side Laundry demonstrates what can happen when vision, determination, and community commitment come together. This project creates opportunity, supports families, and adds another strong local business to our City. We congratulate Monika Mickute and everyone who helped make this vision a reality.”
West Side Laundry has already created two full-time and two part-time positions, with plans to continue expanding its residential and commercial laundry services for families and businesses throughout Wilmington.
With its mission to make laundry easier, cleaner, and more convenient, the business reflects its tagline:
“Life’s Messy. Clothes Don’t Have To Be.”
Residents are encouraged to stop by West Side Laundry, tour the newly renovated space, and support this newest addition to Wilmington’s growing community of locally owned businesses.
