There are those whose work is quiet, steady, and unseen by the spotlight – yet whose impact reverberates through countless lives. Today, we raise that light and turn our attention to one such individual: Darcy Brasure, a man whose name has become synonymous with compassion, resilience, and unwavering service in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
On April 16, 2025, At-Large Council Member James Spadola proudly recognized Darcy Brasure with a resolution to honor him upon his retirement from AIDS Delaware. For over 30 years, Brasure has been a cornerstone of AIDS Delaware, starting as a volunteer and rising to become the longest-serving Manager of Counseling and Testing.
Over the years, his commitment to supporting individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS has been evident in every aspect of his work — from screening tens of thousands of people to guiding them through the often difficult next steps after a diagnosis.
More than just a provider of services, Darcy was a connector helping individuals access care at the Porter Center, the Holloway Program at Wilmington Hospital, and beyond. His compassionate, one-on-one approach created a sense of safety and trust for so many in moments of uncertainty.
Darcy’s leadership helped reduce the stigma surrounding HIV, promoted community health, and ensured culturally responsive services were always within reach. His work strengthened the entire fabric of Wilmington’s public health landscape.
Council Member Spadola’s resolution marks the end of a remarkable chapter and the beginning of a well-earned next one. The Wilmington City Council thanks Darcy Brasure for his dedication, advocacy, and heart.
