5th District Hosts Community Conversation with Council Event

President Shabazz, Councilman Turner, and Chief Tracy Discuss Public Safety in 8th District

Hanifa Shabazz, Wilmington City Council President; Councilman Va’Shun Turner (5th District); At-Large Members of Council; Robert Tracy, Chief of Police; Matthew Kurten, Sector Captain; District Officers, Residents of the 5th District and other stakeholders.

WHAT:

Wilmington City Council President Hanifa Shabazz presents Community Conversations with City Council, a City-wide walking and listening tour.  Community Conversations with City Council is an outreach initiative designed to engage Wilmington residents in their neighborhoods around important issues impacting their quality of life.

Note: Dates and times for other districts will be announced

WHY:

Public safety is the number one concern across our city.  As such, the Community Conversations with City Council initiative will be public safety centric and serve the following purpose:

  • Introduce Chief Robert Tracy – Wilmington’s top cop – to residents in all eight districts of the city;
  • Allow Council and Chief Tracy to hear, first-hand, the issues, challenges, and concerns of residents and get your feedback on legislative resolutions and ordinances being considered by council;
  • Formally introduce residents to the district officers assigned to their neighborhoods; and
  • Improve relations between police and the diverse communities throughout Wilmington.
VISUALS:

Video and photography will be permitted during the event.

INTERVIEWS:

Speakers and residents will be available to answer media questions.
