Councilwoman Shané Darby Highlights Summer Learning Opportunity for Young Students in Red Clay School District
The Summer Quest program will run from June 29, 2026, through August 6, 2026, at Shortlidge Academy
Wilmington, DE – Councilwoman Shané Darby is encouraging families across the community to take advantage of the Summer Quest program offered through the Red Clay Consolidated School District, a high-quality summer learning experience designed to support early childhood education and student success.
The Summer Quest program will run from June 29, 2026, through August 6, 2026, at Shortlidge Academy and is open to students entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade from select schools, including Lewis Elementary, Johnson School, and Shortlidge Academy.
This engaging program focuses on strengthening literacy and math skills while also offering STEM exploration and creative enrichment opportunities in a safe, supportive environment.
“As a Councilwoman and a mother, I know how critical it is that our children continue learning and growing year-round,” said Councilwoman Shané Darby. “Programs like Summer Quest not only help prevent summer learning loss, but they also create joyful, safe spaces where our youngest learners can build confidence, explore their interests, and stay connected to their education.”
Summer Quest is part of a broader effort by the Red Clay Consolidated School District, in partnership with the Wilmington Learning Collaborative, to expand access to meaningful summer enrichment opportunities for students and families.
Councilwoman Darby emphasized the importance of ensuring families are aware of and able to access these opportunities:
“We must continue to invest in our children early. Access to programs like this is not just about education. It’s about equity, opportunity, and making sure every child has the tools they need to thrive.”
