Councilmember Spadola Launches New Partnership to Keep Wilmington’s Parks Clean
Collaboration with local small business Trash Porters expands park clean-up efforts, starting with Haynes Park

Wilmington, DE – At-Large Councilmember James Spadola is announcing a new partnership with local small business Trash Porters to help keep Wilmington’s parks clean. The effort began earlier this month and, now going into its fourth weekend, has focused on Haynes Park. Each Saturday morning until the cold sets in, Trash Porters will pick up litter in Haynes Park.

Earlier this year, Spadola and Wilmington City Council successfully advocated for overtime funding so Parks Department crews could clean outside of regular hours. Adding Trash Porters builds on that progress and provides added capacity to keep neighborhood parks in better shape for residents.

“This partnership shows the positive results that come when the City and local businesses work together,” said At-Large Councilman Spadola. “Haynes Park is seeing the benefits, and I’m ready to expand this effort to other parks to make sure kids can play safely in a litter-free environment. Many thanks to Trash Porters for their professionalism and dedication. Additionally, I also want to give credit to community legend Mr. Sonny, who has been cleaning the parks himself for years, and continues to do so despite limited mobility. We owe it to him to keep doing the work.”

“In the meantime, I look forward to working on other anti-litter initiatives with the Parks Department and City Council, and I encourage anyone to send pictures of litter in city parks to jnspadola@wilmingtonde.gov to help identify areas most in need.”
