Q: What is the office of educational advocacy (OEA)?
A: A new division within Wilmington City Council established to advocate on behalf of children and families in Wilmington’s schools, ensuring their voices are represented in state and local education decisions. It operates alongside and forms bridges to local schools within existing groups (Wilmington Learning Collaborative, Redding Consortium) without duplicating services.
Q: Why was the OEA created?
A: The office was created to support in addressing the growing academic disparities between Wilmington students and suburban peers. The office is here to represent a unified voice for the City of Wilmington.
Q: How is the OEA different from other advocacy groups?
A: The Office of Educational Advocacy works in partnership with Wilmington City Council. The Office is joining other advocacy groups to bridge the education gap — solely focusing on Wilmington resident students.
Q: Who does the OEA serve?
A: All students residing in the City of Wilmington. — as well as their families, educators and community members.
